• Access
  

  Access: The access network is that part of a communications network which connects subscribers to their immediate service provider. The access network may be further divided between feeder plant or distribution network, and drop plant or edge network.

• Metro
  

  Metro: The metro network is that part of the communications network that aggregates access network traffic and routes it within the metro regional space or directs it to the core network for transport over longer distances to another metro network.

• Core
  

  Core: The core network (or network core) is the central part of a telecom network that provides various services to customers who are connected by the access network.
