Santur Corporation was founded in November
2000 to commercialize tunable components for telecommunications.
As telecom systems move from static point-to-point links to
mesh and reconfigurable WDM networks, the need for tunability
becomes paramount. Although this demand has spawned dozens of
approaches, each championed by a different company, nearly all
the approaches are much more complex and costly and have difficulty
matching the performance and reliability of their conventional
static telecom counterparts. Santur’s
technology, on the other hand, combines proven telecom designs
to offer a simple approach to wide tunability that does not
compromise on performance, and can be offered at similar cost
to static components such as DFB lasers.
The founders and the
technical team are responsible for developing a number of other
novel approaches for tunability now being pursued by other companies.
They are presently committed to Santur’s highly manufacturable
and intrinsically robust technology. The team members have considerable
experience, not only in developing new components, but also
in establishing manufacturability, telecom qualification, and
volume production.
Santur is backed
by
premier VCs in the telecom arena.
Having
raised over $60M through equity and debt, Santur has completed
a state-of-the-art facility in Fremont, California for the
complete manufacture of its high power tunable laser products.
Qualified production is ramping in 2003, and Santur is continuing
to expand the product line to serve its telecom customers.
