Our Mission

Santur's mission is focused on next generation optical networks by providing innovative, reliable and affordable optical devices that build on fundamental technologies of the company.

Optical networks provide the communications backbone of all data and voice traffic. As we become increasingly interconnected the demand for this optical bandwidth is growing approximately 50% per year over the last decade. These networks are enabled by optical devices that generate, route and amplify the signals on the network. Santur is highly skilled in applying fundamental technologies to key applications that enable next generation networks.

Santur’s strategy is to deliver simple and efficient leading-edge optical capabilities by blending core strengths in laser arrays, modulators, and volume production.

Company Background

Santur Corporation was founded in November 2000 and focused to commercialize laser array and packaging technologies for communications. The first application applied these technologies to tunable lasers. As communications systems move from static point-to-point links to mesh and reconfigurable WDM networks, the need for tunability becomes paramount to allow flexibility and cost reduction.

Although this demand has spawned dozens of approaches, each championed by a different company, nearly all the approaches are much more complex and costly and have difficulty matching the performance and reliability of their conventional static telecom counterparts. Santur’s technology, on the other hand, combines proven telecom designs to offer a simple approach to wide tunability that does not compromise on performance, and can be offered at similar cost to static components such as DFB lasers.

New products from Santur are emerging that enable further integration of tunable lasers with semi-conductor modulator technology (developed in-house) to deliver reduced cost, size and power consumption transmitters for a wide range of core networking applications. In addition, narrow laser linewidth and high power variants are released that enable 40 and 100G core networking products.

The team is responsible for developing a number of other novel approaches for and non-tunable applications of the base technology (arrayed lasers and unique packaging approaches). In the non-tunable arena, Santur is developing 40 and 100+GHz transceivers and components to enable high bandwidth data links over extended reach in the access end of the communications market. Applications include 100G interconnect between servers and server farms, routers and ROADM’s (remotely configurable optical add/drop modules) and for WDM PON.
