Santur Corporation Secures $10M In Lease Financing, Accelerates Delivery Of Next Generation Tunable Laser Solutions
Santur Corporation Complements Its Initial Financing Of $20M In Private VC Funding With An Additional $10M Of Lease Financing
FREMONT, CA — (INTERNET WIRE) — 06/14/2001 Ä Santur Corporation, a privately held optical networking components company, today announced the completion of a $10 million lease financing contract with Lighthouse Capital. This complements Santur’s initial venture capital financing round of $20M. The first round, closed in February of this year, was led by Sequoia Capital and Menlo Ventures.

The funding will enable the company to complete development of its next generation tunable components and build out the manufacturing facility in Fremont, California. The company has developed a proprietary technology platform for tunable lasers for telecommunications applications that allows for wide tunability and high power, but at a cost and reliability comparable to fixed wavelength lasers. Customer samples will be available in the fourth quarter.

Santur Corporation has developed a next generation tunable transmitter solution that avoids the complexity and high costs of present tunable laser products with a radically different and cost effective solution for meeting customer needs. Santur will provide DFB-like performance at high power and excellent reliability, all at a cost comparable to present fixed wavelength DFBs. Santur’s products will help service providers deliver high-bandwidth services with greater network flexability and reduce the total network costs.

“Systems level tunability will be a key driver for enabling efficient and cost effective next generation networks,” said Brian Van Steen, Senior Analyst at RHK. “This capability will be an important part of building the dynamic networks that will allow carriers to continuously respond to changing customer requirements. The building blocks of these systems will include tunable lasers and other next generation optical components.”

Dr. Bardia Pezeshki, President and CTO of Santur commented, "Our approach solves the central conundrum of providing both long term stability and wide tunability in transmitter, and does this with the same performance characteristics and cost associated with a single wavelength DFB. We believe that this solution is extremely attractive for nearly all segments of the tunable laser market.”
