Photonics Partners with Santur Corporation for the Supply
of Widely Tunable Transponder Products |

Santur
will supply its DFB-array based widely tunable lasers
for use in XLight 300 pin MSA 10G tunable transponders
Tel-Aviv, Israel; Fremont, California –
October 30, 2002 – XLight Photonics, a
manufacturer of tunable fiber-optic subsystems for metro
and long-haul DWDM systems, and Santur Corporation, a
manufacturer of widely tunable lasers in the C and L band,
today announced that an agreement was signed between the
two companies for the supply and use of Santur’s
tunable lasers in XLight Photonics’ products.
Under the signed agreement, Santur will supply XLight
with its DFB-array based widely tunable lasers for use
in XLight Photonics 300 pin MSA 10G widely tunable transponders.
“We are very excited to partner with Santur as our
preferred laser supplier. Among the many benefits of the
Santur lasers is the fact that it is based on traditional
DFB laser technology, which is well known and widely accepted
by all WDM system vendors,” commented Dr. Dan Sadot,

the risk that is associated with introducing tunability
into WDM systems, and will provide additional benefits
such as high optical power and long-term wavelength stability,”

XLight Photonics uses Santur lasers in its family of 300
pin MSA widely tunable transponders. Offering an MSA compatible
tunable transponder helps system vendors reduce their
costs by eliminating their need to have in-house optical
expertise. It also eliminates the need to outsource large
and costly individual components required for in-house
transponder development and thus drastically reduces equipment
size while increasing its density. Last September, XLight
announced and presented the world’s first widely
tunable 10Gb/s 300 Pin MSA transponder at NFOEC. The transponder
is now available and is sampling to customers.
Santur Corporation has announced the availability of widely
tunable 10 and 20 mW C-band laser products earlier this
year, and has been sampling its L-band products. Currently
these products are provided in module form with control
electronics to customers who need a high-performance,
compact, robust, widely-tunable CW laser source. “The
integration of our widely tunable products in a transponder
is a natural next step. For customers wanting to purchase
at the transponder level, XLight offers the ideal solution
to providing wide tunability in a system,” remarked
