Photonics
Circle of Excellence Award given in recognition of the
TL1010-C widely tunable laser
Fremont, California –
January 28, 2003 – Santur Corporation,
a manufacturer of widely tunable lasers in the C and
L band for telecommunications, today announced that it
has received the Photonics Circle of Excellence Award
from Laurin Publishing. This annual award honors the
25 most technically innovative products of the year 2002
in photonics. The award specifies the TL1010-C in particular,
Santur’s debut product that provides 10 mW of power
across 36 nm of the C-band at standard 25 GHz channel
spacing.
"We are proud to receive this recognition from
the industry," states
Bardia Pezeshki, CTO and co-founder of the company, "and
are honored that our simple, widely tunable laser technology
pleases the award committee as much as the product pleases
our customers." Santur achieves wide tuning by
integrating an array of standard narrow-tunable DFBs
on a single chip and then selecting among them using
an electrically controlled MEMS mirror.
Santur Corporation has since announced the availability
of widely tunable 20 mW C-band laser products, and has
been sampling its L-band products. Currently these products
are provided in module form with control electronics
to customers who need a high-performance, compact, robust,
widely-tunable CW laser source. In particular, widely
tunable laser sources are needed for sparing and inventory
control in DWDM systems.
About Santur Corporation
Headquartered in Fremont, California, Santur Corporation
is a vertically integrated manufacturer of high-performance
tunable lasers for metro and long-haul WDM systems. The
company’s patented DFB-array technology enables
the fabrication of broadly tunable sources at the same
performance and costs as fixed wavelength sources. Santur’s
products have set a new standard in the industry with
their unique combination of high-power achieved without
the use of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), wide
tunability with no possibility of mode hops, stability
in harsh environments, and low cost. For more information,
