Small
form factor module is compliant to the OIF tunable
laser MSA
FREMONT, CA – March 19, 2003 – Santur
Corporation, a leading manufacturer of reliable, cost-effective
source laser components for the telecommunications
industry, today announced general availability of its
next-generation Series 2000 product line. The TL-2010-C
and TL-2020-C, which provide 10 and 20 mW, respectively,
of tunability across the entire C-band, represent a
dramatic step forward in making widely tunable laser
sources a practical reality for telecommunications.
These products have a smaller form factor, lower power
dissipation and lower cost structure than before, and
are compatible with the new OIF tunable laser MSA.
Santur has sampled these as well as 20 mW L-band versions
of the product to major network manufacturers worldwide.
The
new products are based upon the same MEMS-switched,
temperature-tuned DFB array technology pioneered by
Santur, and first demonstrated in the Series 1000 products.
The key Santur component that makes up the Series 1000
product has since been tested to Telcordia GR-468 standards,
with additional shock and vibration testing, proving
its robustness in extreme environments. As before,
the heart of both product lines lies in the DFB array
chip, which can be manufactured, tested, and screened
just like ordinary DFBs. The Series 2000 module also
incorporates an integrated wavelength locker, control
electronics, and industry-standard interface electronics.
“ The
release of our Series 2000 products means that widely
tunable source lasers are more accessible to our customers
than ever—with their small size, low power dissipation,
low cost structure, and compliance to the dominant
tunable laser MSA, we are responding to all the chief
concerns in the marketplace,” commented Julian
Osinski, Santur’s VP of Product Marketing. “This
product and the tunable laser butterfly component inside
of it will enable both widely tunable linecards and
widely tunable 300-pin MSA transponders at a cost similar
to that of narrow tunables. The barrier to adoption
of widely tunables just got substantially lower.”
The Series 2000 products will be on display in the
Santur booth at OFC 2003.
About Santur Corporation
Headquartered in Fremont, California, Santur Corporation
is a vertically integrated manufacturer of high-performance
tunable lasers for metro and long-haul WDM systems.
The company’s patented DFB-array technology enables
the fabrication of broadly tunable sources at the same
performance and costs as fixed wavelength sources.
Santur’s products have set a new standard in
the industry with their unique combination of high-power
achieved without the use of a semiconductor optical
amplifier (SOA), wide tunability with no possibility
of mode hops, stability in harsh environments, and
low cost. For more information, visit www.santurcorp.com,
