Industry Leader to Join Leading Tunable Laser Manufacturer
FREMONT, CA – April 3, 2003 – Santur Corporation, a leading provider of broadly tunable lasers, today announced that Don Scifres has joined their Board as an outside director. Most recently Don was the Co-Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer of JDS Uniphase, the leading optical components company in the industry. Prior to merging with JDSU Don was the President, CEO and Chairman of SDL, which he managed since its founding 1984. Don was the guiding force that established SDL as the premier high power semiconductor laser supplier to the industry.

Dr. Scifres is a leader in the fields of optics and optoelectronics. He has published over 300 technical papers and has been awarded over 130 U.S. patents. He has won numerous industry awards including awards for the distributed feedback laser, the vertical cavity surface emitting laser and high power semiconductor lasers. He has served as President of the Lasers and Electro Optics Society and is a Fellow of IEEE, the Optical Society of America and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Scifres is now chairman of SDL Ventures, an investment company.
