Santur Corporation Announces Next-Generation Series 3000 Small Form-Factor Tunable Laser Products

FREMONT, CA – February 20, 2004 – Santur Corporation, a vertically integrated optical components manufacturer, today announces its next generation family of products demonstrating increased levels of miniaturization and cost-reduction. The new Series 3000 products build upon the success of Santur’s widely tunable, DFB array-based technology that has already been designed in to many transponders and linecards for both metro and long-haul DWDM applications in the form of the Telcordia-qualified Series 2000 products. Both products are capable of on-demand tunability across the C- or L-band at CW power levels up to 20 mW.

The Series 3000 butterfly package is the size of a standard 12.7 x 30 mm butterfly package, enabling easier integration into the tight confines of today’s transponders and line-cards. Nevertheless, it contains the same basic internal building-blocks as the Series 2000 products that have already demonstrated compliance to GR-468-CORE reliability standards, ensuring a low-risk path to Telcordia qualification of the Series 3000 that is expected later this year. Santur is currently sampling the Series 3000 product to interested OEMs, and the new package will be on display in Santur’s booth #1118 at the 2004 Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) in Los Angeles.

The Series 2000 product will be on display at OFC as well and is fully supported for current applications requiring qualified components, at both the butterfly and MSA module level.

“It’s important to show our customers a roadmap of continuous improvement in product specifications and cost. The Series 3000 is an example of how we are doing this, and it brings us closer then ever to convergence with the familiar fixed-wavelength or narrow-tunable DFB but with the added benefit of wide tunability.” says Julian Osinski, VP of Product Marketing at Santur. “The Series 3000 tunable laser source provides one-size-fits-all performance in a small form-factor, low power-dissipation butterfly package that makes it a very compelling solution for transponders and linecards.”

About Santur Corporation
Headquartered in Fremont, California, Santur Corporation is a leading vertically integrated manufacturer of high-performance tunable lasers and components for metro and long-haul WDM systems. The company’s patented DFB-array technology enables the fabrication of broadly tunable sources at the same performance and similar costs as fixed wavelength sources. Santur’s products have set a new standard in the industry with their unique combination of high-power achieved without the use of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), wide tunability with no possibility of mode hops, reliability, and low cost.
