Santur Corporation, the leading manufacturer of high performance parallel array devices for the global telecommunications industry, today announced development of a low profile version of the 10 Gb/s Tunable Transmitter Engine named the TLMZ-LP. The TLMZ-LP integrates Santur’s market leading tunable laser with an Indium Phosphide Mach-Zehnder modulator. These products have been engineered for either metro or long haul transmission requirements. Both zero chirp or chirped versions of the TLMZ-LP are available. Their low profile and compact footprint make them ideally suited for use in SFF transponders and XFP-E pluggable transceivers. This device brings tunability into metro access networks and doubles the port density in the metro core networks. Santur is currently sampling the TLMZ-LP to customers and expects to be in volume production during Q3 of 2008.
Paul Meissner, CEO of Santur, stated “At Santur, we are very pleased with the development of the tunable transmitter product lines based on our parallel photonic array technology. As with our previous generation products, our customer partnerships are making rapid adoption of this new technology possible.”
Bardia Pezeshki, Chief Technical Officer and Co-Founder, said “Integration of the Tunable Laser with the Mach-Zehnder modulator, in the low profile compact footprint package, allows tunable transceivers to be used in the pluggable XFP-E format. Further, it eliminates the need to source a separate tunable laser and modulator. It also eliminates the need for polarization maintaining fiber and a splice or connector between the laser and modulator”.
