Tunable Laser Components
Santur’s tunable laser components are the most deployed tunable laser sources world-wide. These gold package butterflies gain their popularity from small size, ease of integration and wide range of customization.
Santur’s tunable laser core is based on an integrated array of DFB lasers. Each strip is temperature tunable for up to 8 wavelengths. MEMs is used to select the active stripe and couple light to the output fiber. A simple schematic of the operation can be seen below.
DFB laser control is well understood. This coupled with simple MEMs operation to select the active stripe, makes a robust, easy to integrate solution for full C/L-band tunability. The multi-stripe DFB arrays are customizable to support wide ranges of output power, wavelength ranges, wavelength spacing and advanced features like dithering for SBS suppression.
Santur tunable laser components belong to two families:
- TLB-2K is commonly used in 300-pin LFF transponders
world wide. This laser has individual control lines to select the active
stripe.
- TLB-3K has an integrated laser
chip select IC which reduces the number of pins and package to a size
appropriate for 300-pin SFF transponders.
Besides 300 pin transponders, the butterflies are also available is OIF compliant for factors for use in 40G and 10G line card applications to support metro/long haul networks.
